Respite

Mum, Anna & Pru

Knowing my 14-year-old daughter Mia is exploring the beach and summer markets with Humdrum’s caring support has brought me such relief. Mia, who is non-verbal, doesn’t often get these chances to be out in the world independently, and seeing her so engaged and happy fills my heart.

This respite hasn’t only given Mia new experiences; it’s also given me the space to recharge, so I can be my best for her. I’m incredibly grateful to Humdrum for this time, helping both of us grow in our own ways.

One person wears a pink top and brown pants, while the other wears a purple shirt and blue pants. The ocean and sunset sky form the background, with white clouds visible.

Mary & Josie

For Mary, a proud grandmother, Christmas had become a bit lonely in recent years. Her mobility challenges made it hard to stay overnight with family, often leaving her feeling like she was missing out on the true holiday experience. But this year, with Humdrum’s support, everything changed.

Through a live-in support arrangement, Mary was able to stay at her daughter’s house, fully immersed in the festivities with her children and grandchildren. Her Humdrum support worker was there to assist with her daily needs, allowing Mary to relax and enjoy the holiday alongside her loved ones.

“Being with my family this Christmas meant the world to me,” Mary shared. “I wasn’t just a visitor—I felt part of every moment, from opening presents to sharing meals and laughter.”

Other guests including a person in an orange shirt and a child in pink stripes are seated at the table which is set with colorful plates and a roasted turkey. The setting is decorated with string lights and the background shows French doors and garden greenery.

Danny & Tim

Danny never imagined he’d be climbing Western Australia’s tallest peak, but with his support worker Tim by his side, he conquered Bluff Knoll. Along the way, he faced his fears, built confidence, and discovered his potential.

“Working with Tim, I feel like we can take on the world,” Danny shares. “Humdrum doesn’t try to ‘fix me’; they support me in doing what I love.”

Now, Danny’s life is full of new challenges and independence, from moving into his own place to taking on adventures he once thought impossible. With Humdrum’s support, each day brings him closer to his best self.
